Conserving Ecosystems, Enabling Progress
Formerly a part of Greenscape Environmental Ltd, Barns Ecology was established to continue their legacy of providing exceptional ecological support for development projects in the West Midlands.
Offering ecological appraisals in Worcestershire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, South Staffordshire and beyond, we can work with you to get your planned developments through the planning process while protecting our native wildlife.
With a strong focus on barn conversions and small household developments, we bring over a decade of experience to the table, backed by licensed consultants who excel in delivering reports to the highest standards.
We passionately believe that ecological or environmental surveys should be an integral part of any development project's planning stages.
This proactive approach allows us to design and implement biodiversity enhancement measures that harmonise with the site and the protected species that inhabit it.
These initial assessments help identify and evaluate ecological features on a site, including the presence of protected species and potential roost sites for bats. We can then produce a report for submission with planning, or we will discuss the need for further surveys with you.
This assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation of the potential ecological impact of a proposed development. It considers how the project may affect habitats, species, and ecosystems.
These surveys focus on identifying and assessing the presence of protected species in specific areas. For bats we conduct activity surveys over the summer months, great crested newt surveys are conducted in the spring time.
Based on survey findings, we provide recommendations and strategies to minimize the impact of development on protected species. This may include habitat creation, translocation, or timing restrictions.
An Ecological Clerk of Works oversees construction projects to ensure compliance with ecological recommendations, helping protect species and habitats during the construction phase.
If it is not possible to avoid risk to protected species like bats, we can assist with obtaining the required mitigation licenses for projects that might otherwise see the loss or modification of a known roost, ensuring legal compliance.
These documents outline procedures and precautions to minimize harm to protected species during construction and other activities.
We can help with developing plans for managing and enhancing habitats to promote biodiversity and support protected species.
We assess the habitats on site using UK Habs and the Biodiversity Metric Condition Assessment sheets to quantify the impact of a development project on biodiversity. We will then work with you to achieve a net gain in biodiversity through habitat enhancements and conservation efforts.
